Root Revive Steps

Consultation to discuss any concerns about your current scalp health.
Your stylist will use the ScalpStory machine to take the pictures/scans needed for the analysis (for both hair loss and scalp health).
Then we will walk you through the results of the scan and discuss any areas of concern that might require extra treatment as well as what can be targeted today.
Travel over to the shampoo bowl where you will receive a completely customized treatment created from the results of the analysis.

Utilizing these products will set you up for success when it comes time to dive into the actual shaping and drying of the blowout!

Step Two: Rough Dry

Once all the products are applied and massaged into the hair, it's time to grab your blow dryer! We won't be sectioning yet, so hold off on those clips. First, we need to pre-dry/rough-dry your hair until it's about 85% dry. This means your hair shouldn't be dripping wet!

Move your head side to side, upside down, and straight up in order to get lots of volume at the root. Also, make sure you're using your fingers or a brush to comb through your hair to work to prevent any tangles or too much frizz (the real smoothing will come with the round brush!).

Pro Tip: Use the Thermashape Quick Blowdry Spray to cut your time in half!

The purpose of pre-drying your hair is to get the bulk of the moisture out of each strand, so it creates more ease when you go in with your round brush/tools. No one wants to spend 5 minutes drying each section of hair!

Step Three: Tools and Brush Manipulations

Now it's time to choose the size of round brush you're working with. Keep in mind that the smaller the brush, the curlier the outcome! When your hair reaches 85% dry, it's time to section up your hair! Create sections starting at the base of your neck and work your way up. Each section you work with should be the same width and height as the round brush you've chosen to work with. We don't want to overload the brush!

Pro Tip: After finishing each section, make sure to use the cool button to set your style before unwrapping your brush from the hair.

If you want your ends to tuck under toward your neck, then you should be rolling and manipulating the brush with the hair wrapping over the brush. If you want more of an outward flip, then the hair should be wrapped on the underside of the brush. For a little bit of both, alternate which way you manipulate the hair!

Another brush manipulation trick is to treat the brush as if it's a curling iron. Holding it vertically, move the brush to your ends and slowly roll it up until it reaches the scalp. Let it cool, and then carefully twist out the style. Voila! Utilizing your brush like this creates even more movement through your style.

Wait! Don't shake out your curls just yet. Grab that texture/hairspray and lightly dust your hair with a few sprays. This will ensure longevity throughout the day! After a few moments, tip your head upside down and lightly shake out your style with your hands, or use a wide-tooth comb to combine the shapes. Flip your head up and keep combing and spritzing until you get your desired shape!

These people are the patients themselves, their families, friends, and the community. Those times before, during, and after treatments can be overwhelming for everyone involved. Top 5 Tips for Hair Extension Care

So you want to try hair extensions?

Or maybe you've already tried them, but they didn't last as long as you hoped, or the hair didn't look as natural as you expected. Chances are it was the type of hair extensions, install method, or the kind of care you were taking of the hair extensions that were the problem.

Hair extensions can be one of the most expensive things we do with our hair and at Ottalaus Salon we take this service seriously. At your initial consultation we go over hair extension install methods, recommended maintenance appointment schedules, and at-home care. This way you know what to expect from your service and how to properly care for your hair extensions after you leave. All our hair extension clients also receive a Take-Home Hair Extension Care Kit at their first install to help extend the life and beauty of their extensions.

We want you to feel confident and excited about getting hair extensions so we compiled some helpful information to guide you in which hair extension type might be best for your hair and lifestyle needs, as well as top tips for caring for your hair extensions once you have them.

Let’s start with a little education on types of hair extensions...

Hand Tied Weft Hair Extensions:

Hand tied wefts are good for all hair types and are particularly best for thin hair because they tend to be lighter weight, so you’ll get less “slippage”. The lighter density also allows for greater natural movement and blending with natural hair. They can also be stacked for more root volume without getting a “bunched” look. The downfall of hand tied is they can’t be cut to fit the shape of the head which limits placement, and they tend to shed a bit more than other types.

Machine Weft Hair Extensions:

Machine weft hair extensions are denser than hand tied which means fewer rows are necessary and they can be cut to fit your head shape giving you more placement options. They are durable and tend to have less “shed” than hand tied. However, due to the nature of the machine sewing they are thicker and heavier at the application site which can make them less desirable for thinner hair types and they have less “movement” meaning if you don’t make sure they are very high quality it’s harder to disguise that you have extensions. If you tend to have a sensitive scalp you may want to forgo machine tied because of the added weight/pressure at the application site.

Genius Weft Hair Extensions: (Ottalaus Salon Recommended)

Genius Wefts are an Ottalaus Salon favorite. These wefts have a combination of hand tie and machine tie within them. You get the lighter weight of hand tied but they can be cut to fit the clients head the same way a machine weft can. The band is thinner than both hand tied and machine so it sits closer to the scalp for a more natural look and feel. They have less shed similar to machine wefts but are less dense so they can be stacked for added thickness without the heavy bunching at the scalp you get with machine wefts. You get more placement options and due to the lessened amount of shedding they tend to last longer than hand tied as well.

Tape-in Hair Extensions:

Tape-in hair extensions are narrow sections of hair with an adhesive strip for application. Two tape-in wefts are “sandwiched” together over sections of natural hair and can be placed almost anywhere. They are a quick method for adding thickness and length. The largest benefit of tape-in is cost. These tend to be the least expensive option (including installation fees). The downside of tape-in is durability. The tape breaks down with each shampoo decreasing the time between move-ups and the move-up process itself is messy. The tape leaves residue on the hair that must be removed before the extensions can be moved up making the process lengthy. Tape-in extensions aren’t recommended if you exercise/sweat a lot or shampoo more than 2-3 times per week as the degradation of the tape will happen much quicker requiring more frequent maintenance.

Clip-in or Banded Hair Extensions:

These are a fun way to test out if extensions are for you. They are attached to the hair via small clips (or bands) that are easy to install and remove. They’re fun for special occasions and even every day once you get the hang of the install. The upside is obviously price, convenience, and zero maintenance—other than the gentle care of the extensions themselves. The downside is functionality. These aren’t meant to be roughly handled. They don’t ponytail well and aren’t something you want to wear during any sort of physical activity. They can be too heavy for fine hair (bands are better for thin hair types) and people have had issues with getting their natural hair stuck in the clips.

Top 5 Tips for Hair Extension Care

The following tips are beneficial to follow for all hair extension types.

Only use professional hair care products! Apply shampoo directly to your roots only and don’t wash more than 2x per week. You can condition your extensions but try to keep it off the application site to reduce slippage. Use an oil such as Kerastase L'Huile Original Hair Oil or ORIBE Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil on the midshaft to ends 1-2x per day. Keep a brush handy in your purse (check out the travel size Rock & Ruddle’s ) to help keep tangles at bay and extensions shiny.
Apply a heat-protectant before you blow-dry. Blow-dry starting at the roots and keep the blow-dryer positioned toward the floor to avoid tangles. Keep the heat low-medium, and high temp tools-such as curling irons and flat irons-away from the application site.
Brush starting at the ends and work your way up, securing the extensions at the application site to prevent unnecessary tension on your roots. Brush gently over the application site to prevent gathering. We recommend a mixed bristle brush (synthetic and natural bristles) designed for use with extensions (like Rock & Ruddle ) to minimize breakage and better distribute oils for increased shine. Rock & Ruddle also has a great shampoo brush designed for wet hair to help you better distribute your conditioner and get the tangles out in the shower.
Apply dry shampoo on your roots at night before bed and put hair in a loose braid or high wrapped ponytail to help prevent tangling while you sleep. Be sure to use a silk or velvet scrunchie to secure and you’ll wake up to brush-able waves in the morning. A silk or satin pillowcase will also help prevent friction, tangling, and breakage.
KEEP YOUR MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENTS! Number five is one of the most important steps in your hair extension care (next to using professional products) to ensure you get the most beautiful and longest lasting results with your new hair extensions. Your stylist will recommend how often you should be coming in to have your hair extensions moved up and it’s wise to follow their advice. Most salons will not guarantee your hair extensions if you don’t keep regularly scheduled maintenance and use the products they recommend—and trust us, you’ll be glad you did!

(For Clip-in Extension Care—shampoo in cold water every 2-3 months. Condition mask for 5-10 min. Dry on low to medium heat using a brush to smooth the last 5-10% dry time. Curl them off your head, curl your natural hair, then install!)

10 Tips for Winter Self-Care

Winter can be a hard time. There’s less daylight hours and the cold will make hermits out of the best of us. Seasonal depression is real folks and it’s important to take good care of yourself even when (especially when), you least feel like it.

We’ve gathered a few tips for winter self-care to help keep you out of the cold-weather funk. Choose a few to do or come up with your own and make a point to stick with it. Remember, you deserve it!

1. Set a seasonal routine to better prepare for what’s coming. You know your body. You know what happens to you when the days get shorter and colder. It’s not your imagination. Studies have proven that seasonal changes in sunlight, temperature and weather do affect our physical and psychological well-being ( 4 ). Create a seasonal routine you can rely on to keep you healthy and happy during the funk-y months.

2. Increase your simple exercise level. Park a little farther from the building. Bundle up and go for a brisk walk around the block. Buy some cramp-ons (shoe chains) if you’re nervous about slick walks. Do morning yoga. We all know exercise releases endorphins and we can for sure use more of those in the winter.

3. Do little things to increase your sun exposure. Studies show that people with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) struggle regulating serotonin (the hormone that regulates mood) and sunlight is said to help increase serotonin. Bundle up and go outside for an afternoon coffee. It’s cold, I know, but just an added 15 minutes a day of sun exposure can do wonders for your energy levels and increase happiness, plus a little caffeine boost can help you get over the afternoon slump. Just try to keep it before 4pm if you have trouble falling asleep. There are other things such as light therapy lamps or light therapy facials (something we offer here at Ottalaus Salon ) that can help as well.

4. Take time to pamper yourself. Go get a massage, a facial , a mani/pedi , or all three. Take a hot bubble bath surrounded by scented candles while indulging in a glass of wine and some chocolate.

5. Set goals. Sometimes having something to work on keeps us motivated and moving. Finish that room make-over. Choose 4 new books you’ll finish by spring. Do an exercise challenge with friends through your favorite app.

6. Try something new. Join a hot yoga class or take up boxing. Start that online art class you’ve been researching or take a business class at your local college.

7. Take a break from social media. If you’re struggling to stay happy, avoid social media for a time. Set a goal to take a week off and when you’re tempted to scroll mindlessly pick up a book instead, or go for a walk, or a drive, make a gratitude list, or write in your journal. Do something that requires actual thought and is less likely to feed your depressive state. FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a legitimate disorder caused by social media and is bound to be worse in the winter when funds are tighter, and motivation is limited. Don’t torture yourself. Take a breather. You’ll be glad you did.

8. Pursue a goal or a dream you’ve been saying you don’t have the time for. Cold weather slows us down, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Have you always wanted to write a novel? Or create an online boutique? Now’s the time to break out the vision board and start researching. You’re sitting around anyway, why not do something productive that gets you excited?

9. Make to-do lists. Sometimes the satisfaction of ticking things off a list can keep us moving and feeling accomplished. Set a daily routine and then make a list for your tasks each day. Use multi-colored pens. Get a new planner or fun notebook. It’s surprising how much these little things can make the mundane not just bearable but pat-on-the-back worthy.

10. Call a friend. Don’t just send a text. Call and have a nice long visit. Laugh, cry, and enjoy the gift of friendship for what it was meant to be.

9 Summer Haircare Tips

Summer is on the way!

Ottalaus stylists have put together some great tips for protecting and caring for your locks all season long!

Start the summer with a good trim ( book now )
Switch to moisturizing shampoo and conditioners
Condition, condition, condition. We know your scalp can feel extra oily when its hot and you’re getting sweaty. Don’t let this tempt you to skip the conditioner. If you’re feeling like you get oily too fast just keep the conditioner off your scalp and apply only from midshaft to ends
Use dry shampoo and/or dry conditioner to extend time between washes to only 3 times per week
Get yourself a good brush like a natural bristle Rock & Ruddle to help distribute oils down to those dry ends
Protect color with high quality products or even better a hat or scarf. Put sunscreen on your scalp (especially at part lines that will be in direct sunlight) and use haircare products with sunscreen such as Soleil by Kerastase . Or Oribe’s Invisible Defense . (We carry both these products in our salons)
Try to use less heat—your hair is getting enough just from the sun. Opt-out of daily use of your hair dryer, curling and/or flat irons. Use a good water soaking microfiber towel to remove most of the moisture, then twist your hair into a loose bun or braid before bed. You’ll wake up to a nice wave you can set with some great beach wave products like Kerastase Mermaid Beach Waves Haircare .
Stick to loose styles like buns, tucked ponytails, and braids to help protect your hair from the drying effects of the sun.
Pool prep. Prevent damage and green hair (or pink extensions) from chlorine by taking the right measures before and after you take a dip. Check out our step-by-step article on the subject here

Beauty Tip #3 How to Prevent and Remove Green From Hair After Swimming

It’s one thing when you choose to color your hair a lovely shade of green, but have you ever spent oodles of time and money on gorgeous blonde highlights only to have them turn a nasty shade of green after a trip to the pool? Or maybe you’re naturally blonde but by the end of a summer in the pool no one would know?

What about those pretty blonde hair extensions? Ever had them turn PINK from chlorine?

Whatever your woes, we’ve compiled a list of tips to help your summer hair stay green (or pink) free.

PREVENTION IS BEST

The adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is truth. The best way to stay green-free is to protect your lovely blonde locks before you get in the pool. It’s important to remember that chlorine is also in the air surrounding the swimming pool so putting your hair in a ponytail and trying to keep it dry isn’t going to be enough.

Instead try this:

Apply a thick conditioner (or oil) to damp locks. The conditioner helps prevent the pool water from soaking into your hair. (Extensions? Try using a natural based sunscreen to protect your locks).
Twist hair into a couple French braids, tuck ends back into the braids and secure with soft bands. The braids will help keep the conditioner from rinsing out as quickly and make detangling later a breeze. Hair too short to braid? Try a bun or a swim cap. The key is to keep as much of your porous ends as possible out of contact with the water.
Shampoo your hair with a chlorine removing shampoo and hydrating conditioner (we recommend Malibu Swimmers Wellness ) as soon as you get out of the pool—don’t wait until you get home. The longer you let the chlorine sit the more damage it can do.

too late, I'm green!

Chlorine is the necessary evil of the swimming pool. It kills all that nasty stuff… necessary , but it turns your hair green and lays a nasty coating over it that prevents moisture from getting in… evil . Which means your hair isn’t only green, it’s getting drier and crunchier the more exposure it gets. While the best thing you can do is protect your hair first, there are a few things that can help you get the green out after.

Try this:

Malibu Swimmers Natural Wellness Treatment removes chlorine, copper, and other pool elements. This can be done at home or in the salon by your stylist. (There are various at-home methods involving things like lemon juice, vinegar, baking soda, and even Kool-Aid or tomato juice! We recommend you discuss any of these with your stylist before attempting as some can do more harm than good, especially if you have color-treated hair)
If none of the above works you may need a trip to the salon to have extremely damaged ends trimmed and/or a coloring service that can counter the green.

How To Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage This Summer

Winter 2021 was harsh. There were lots of snowstorms, grey skies, and layered clothing. Your skin got used to the cold weather and the lack of sunshine. But spring is here, and summer is close behind which means that you may need to find ways to protect and maintain your skin during the hotter months.

Sun exposure can have many health benefits. It helps your body to produce vitamin D and can boost your immune system and mental health. Too much exposure, though, can cause the skin to age prematurely, in the form of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. It is also the leading cause of certain types of skin cancer, such as melanoma.

Protect Skin During Sun Exposure

Avoid the strongest UV ray exposure by staying out of the sun as much as possible between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Try to go for your morning run earlier or out for a bite later. You’ll get your dose of vitamin D with less risk to your skin’s health.

Sunscreen is your main defense against Ultraviolet A and Ultraviolet B rays any time of the day. Apply generously and frequently to ensure that your skin is always protected. There are different opinions on what level of sun protection factor should be used daily, but the higher the SPF the better the protection. Keep in mind that everyone is different, so pay attention to your skin’s reaction to see if you need a higher SPF sunscreen or a different formulation.

Wearing protective clothing is also a great way to escape the rays. Thick clothes like jeans offer the best protection, but in hot, humid weather, they may be impractical. In addition to wearing sunscreen, choose dark clothing to offset some of the sun’s rays.

Welcome the shade whenever possible if you’re in the sun for long periods, especially during peak hours.

Maintain Skin Health In Summer And All Year Long

You can follow the tips below during the spring and summer months to maximize your protection against the sun when it’s at its strongest. They’re also great tips to follow the other nine months of the year. Your skin needs daily protection all year long, and these tips have many other benefits, too.

Too much sun exposure immediately results in skin dehydration, so make sure to drink lots of water before, during, and after being outside in the summer. Eating healthy is just as important as drinking water. Getting the right nutrients can aid in your skin’s natural defense against harmful effects from the sun.

FEARLESS DECISION... THE OTTALAUS SALON ORIGIN STORY...

My name is AnneMarie Krainich. I am the founder and CEO of Ottalaus Salon, LLC. As a female entrepreneur I am often asked what it took for me to start a business and then grow that business into the million-dollar company it is today—all without a college degree or accruing huge amounts of debt.

When I first dreamed of opening my own hair salon, I was a single mom barely scraping by, but I had a vision that wouldn’t let me sleep at night. I had been searching for a salon that would offer a unique spa-like experience for my guests in a high-class atmosphere with all the latest tech. It seemed I could find one or the other, but never blended the way I envisioned.

Then the universe stepped in and I had a decision to make, one fearless decision. A salon I had formerly worked for had gone out of business leaving their space vacant. It had many of the high-class qualities I was looking for and with a few adjustments I knew it could be exactly what I wanted. With less than $500 to my name I made the appointment with the landlord. I had one week to come up with the $10,000 down payment and first month’s rent—which I did. I can’t even tell you exactly how it happened. All I can say is once I made the decision the scariest part was done, and things just started to fall into place.

Now, I’m not trying to make it sound easy. It wasn’t. There’s a reason they say entrepreneurs must have grit and nearly insane determination. I spent many sleepless nights going over everything. I researched every piece of equipment and item of furniture making sure I could get what I wanted at a price I could afford. After working all day, I spent hours painting, cleaning, and arranging the new space. I leaned on the support of my friends and loved ones when I needed the reminder that I could do this. I had two young boys at home who needed me to show them that dreams are possible if you’re willing to do the work, I wasn’t going to let them down.

OTTALAUS SALON... A HAIR SALON LIKE NO OTHER

In less than three months, February of 2017, we opened our full-service beauty salon to rave reviews and have been wowing guests ever since, and I think I know at least one key reason why. Our why… The reason I started this business was to solve a problem I understood as a working mom but had been unable to find for my guests. A place that helps women keep themselves at the top of their priorities list by making self-care easier to add to the budget and far more convenient. (Solving the two biggest problems—time and money—that often-hinder self-care). I also wanted self-care at my salons to be much more than just a hair or skincare visit, I wanted it to be an experience guests would remember and want to repeat again and again.

I believe self-care is an act of self-love and you deserve to love every minute of it. And here, I believe we provide that. From the welcome beverage at reception, to the reclining/massaging shampoo chairs, to a processing area with state-of-the-art infrared dryers situated around a glass table that invites guests to relax and visit, Ottalaus provides a unique experience that brings the best of the salon and the spa all-in-one. We offer everything from hair cutting and coloring to hair extensions, to lash extensions, to facials and permanent makeup. Our Elite Beauty Savings Plan simplifies budgeting for self-care and our fully automated booking system makes scheduling (and remembering your appointment) a breeze. We now have two locations, one in Lehi, Utah and one in South Jordan, Utah, with plans to open more soon.

Ottalaus means fearless in Icelandic , a word taken from my heritage that reminds me of what it took to start this business and of how I continually seek to approach my goals. Something beyond grit and determination. I’m not saying I’m without fear, this experience taught me that when the universe presents you with a path to your dreams you must reach out and follow it despite your fears. You must leave them behind you. It’s only then that you can truly find the life you are meant to live.

With the help of one of our lash extensions specialists we’ve put together a quick list of prep and aftercare tips to help your lashes last longer and look fresh until your next fill!

PREPARE FOR YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS

Longer lasting lashes begin with the right lash extension prep.

Make sure you go to your appointment make-up free, especially no mascara
Wear comfy clothes and take a pair of headphones–lash extensions appointments can take up to a couple of hours so let it be a time to relax!
Be sur e to tell your specialist about any specific skin sensitivities or allergies

AFTERCARE FOR YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS

How to keep those lashes beautiful between visits.

Avoid any makeup or makeup removers that are oil-based
Brush through your lashes with a soft lash brush every day and whenever they get tangled
Wash your lashes daily with lash shampoo to prevent buildup–this keeps the lashes clean and makes them last longer (FYI, Ottalaus salon carries its very own lash extension care kit that includes shampoo, a brush, lash treatment–for longer lasting lashes–and a portable fan)
Avoid picking or rubbing your lashes
Invest in a satin or silk pillowcase that won’t catch on your lashes (these are great for your hair too)
Many people are under the impression that you can’t get your lashes wet for 24 hours after application, which isn’t true, yay! The humidity from the shower or washing your face can actually help the glue adhere better. However, avoiding excessive heat like from a sauna or hot tub for the first 24 hours is recommended
Prebook your fills every 1-3 weeks (as recommended by your specialist) to avoid the risk of not getting in when you need to!

HOW TO STYLE THEM AND HOW TO GET THEM TO LAST

Get this look and have it last for up to 5 days!

THE CURL PROCESS:

Apply a heat protectant to wet hair, such as Oribe’s Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray, and dry thoroughly
Use a 1.5 to 2” curling iron and direct curls away from the face, starting from about 4-6 inches from the scalp and pulling through the ends (depending on length of hair and where you want the waves to start)
For added volume and texture start by curling away from your face, then alternate curl direction throughout the rest of your hair
Apply a few drops of oil to your palm (we love Kerastase Elixir Ultime), rub hands together and finger comb the oil throughout your hair to separate curls, add shine, and tame static and flyaway

THE MAKE IT LAST PROCESS:

Get yourself a silk or satin pillowcase. Not only do they help preserve your style they are better for your hair by creating less friction while you sleep that can cause breakage
In the evening brush out tangles with a soft bristle brush (try a Rock and Ruddle —you’ll love it)
Twist hair into a loose bun at the top of your head and secure with a silk or velvet scrunchie.
When you wake up, shake out your hair, apply dry shampoo (we recommend Fresh Hair by Kevin Murphy ) to your roots and brush through
Apply your oil in the same way as you did after you curled your hair and let settle for a few minutes
Finish with a light setting spray if desired

MORE PRO TIPS

*Be sure to grab a good shower cap to wear in-between washes and wrap your hair beneath the cap as you would to go to sleep before showering or bathing. This will prevent the humidity from flattening your curls ��.

*These tips are great if you have hair extensions as well. Shampooing less often also adds the benefit of extending the life of your extensions AND your hair color.

3 BIG Things You May Not Have Known About Friendship

1. According To Aristotle, There Are 3 Types Of Friendships:

Friendships of Utility (The Acquaintance) – these are friendships that exist between two people who find each other useful in some way—such as coworkers or neighbors you trade responsibilities with when one of you are away.

Friendships of Pleasure: (The Casual Friend) – these are friendships with people whose company you enjoy. This is the pal you call when you want to have a good time with no strings attached. You have fun together, but this isn’t likely to be someone you go to when you need a shoulder to cry on or for career advice.

Friendships of Virtue: (The Bestie) – these are the friendships that take longest to develop and are based on mutual respect and admiration. They tend to be more powerful and endure longer. They often begin in childhood or adolescence, but many come after that as well. These are the friends you call when you need a shoulder to cry on and trust this person to listen, but also be honest when it’s time to stop crying and get back to kicking ass. These kinds of friendships require mutual vulnerability, lack of judgement, and a willingness to work through disagreements.

Studies show that all three types of friendships have certain benefits, but it’s good to have a balance. If all your friendships lean toward the superficial (the Acquaintance and the Casual Friend) it might be time to evaluate yourself and why you’re not letting anyone close enough to you to be a Bestie—as these are the deep friendships that everyone needs for health and happiness (see number two!)

Increase a sense of belonging and purpose
Boost happiness and reduce stress
Improve self-confidence and self-worth

They also play a very significant role in promoting your overall health. Adults with healthy and strong social connections have reduced risk of depression, high blood pressure and unhealthy BMI. Studies have even shown that older adults with meaningful friendships are likely to live longer!
