The Origin of Kerastase

In Paris, France, in 1964, the then-CEO of L'Oréal, François Dalle, decided to revolutionize luxury hair care.


Dalle saw the gap in luxury salons and wanted to create a blend of scientific innovation with personalized, luxury salon experiences.

Dallé recognized the opportunity to elevate stylists into ‘Prescriptive Hair Care Specialists,’ a role designed to raise the standard of salons and the services offered to the public. These specialists emphasized the health and hygiene of the scalp, an approach that ultimately defined their legacy

The brand adopted the viewpoint of creating skincare-like products to nourish and treat the health of the scalp.


Kérastase is celebrated for its innovation in inventing the first "care" shampoo, mask, and serum, shifting hair care from a hygienic concern to one focused on comprehensive care for the scalp and hair.

Kérastase has designed its product containers in a color-coded chart to help consumers identify which products will best address their haircare needs.
